Assessment Clinic

AEIOU's Assessment Clinic is open to children up to 18 years of age!

Our Assessment Clinic is designed to support children and families on their journey towards accessing support early.

AEIOU helps families by providing reduced-cost standardised autism assessments, and giving parents – and clinicians – important clinical insights into their child’s skills, behaviours, strengths, and needs.

Does this sound like you?

  • You have concerns about your child’s development, or suspect they may have autism.
  • You’re waiting for an appointment with a paediatrician or clinician to discuss concerns or a diagnosis – but you’re worried you don’t have all the information you need.
  • You want to gain insight into your child’s skills, preferences, strengths, and support needs prior to commencing prep or kindy in 2025.

If you said 'yes' to any of the above, AEIOU's Assessment Clinic is for you.

Why book an Assessment with AEIOU?

Families experience so many challenges in seeking a diagnosis. Demand for assessments is increasing and, at the same time, waitlists with paediatricians and practitioners are growing. Families are waiting up to 2 years and 3 months from when they first become concerned about their child to actually being able to access the support they need (Mead, Lee, Bullot, 2024). Our primary focus is to support children in gaining earlier access to funding and support at a crucial time in their development.

An assessment may be the first step if a family has concerns about a child’s development or suspects they may have autism – because an assessment is evidence of your child’s skills, preferences, strengths, and needs, and supports them to be able to access funding and get support early.

What you’ll get with your AEIOU Assessment

  • A clinical report with detailed observations, scores and information related to autism characteristics and behaviours
  • Insight into your child’s unique skills, preferences, strengths and needs
  • Invaluable evidence for your GP to make a referral to a diagnosing clinician, and to access funding and support
  • A more affordable diagnostic process
  • Insights for your child’s childcare or kindergarten team to better support them

The importance of medical specialists in making a diagnosis

AEIOU considers it best-practice when paediatricians make diagnostic decisions. Our Assessors provide clinical reports as evidence to a qualified diagnosing clinician (e.g. paediatrician, psychiatrist, or psychologist) who will consider the assessment and report in making a diagnosis. Assessments at AEIOU do not equal diagnoses.
