At our recent Sippy Downs centre graduation one of our Mums had written this funny and joyous poem about her daughter Macenzie's typical day at AEIOU. We think it's great and captures all the things our children get to experience in their day, from the child's perspective. Thank you, Kerri!
An ode to AEIOU Sippy Downs
We are all in Sippy Downs
We’ve come from lots of little towns.
To play, learn and create,
I will definitely make a little mate.
No tears or bunging it on when I arrive,
This is a place I will really thrive.
Lots of activities for me to discover,
Goodbye Father, Goodbye Mother.
Good morning Nicole, I’m here to play,
I can’t wait to start my day.
So where can I begin?
I’ll put out the activity bin.
WOW chalk! Watch me draw on the ground,
Instruments I can use to make a sound.
In comes Kim with a cuddle,
She sends me into one big muddle.
Do I want a kiss or a hug?
I’ll pretend to be sad and give a tug.
Now Kim knows I am here,
I have absolutely nothing to fear.
Into the sand I sit and dig,
I bake and make and build so big.
I’ve made my very own busy town.
No-one is allowed to crash it down.
Come on children, inside you go,
Yoga time, bend down low.
On one leg be a stalk,
Yoga is no place to talk.
Fiona’s set up writing tasks,
Art will be international masks.
Painting, drawing, shopping, camping,
Balancing, cheering, singing and stamping.
Kalee’s turn to work me hard,
We have to write on a name card.
Set up a resting spot.
No sleep for me I’m just too hot.
Kalee reads me a story book,
I just can’t help it I have to look.
Kalee I realy don’t need a sleep,
I’ll be good, close my eyes, I will not peep.
In comes Liz to pack my bed,
She makes me do it by myself instead.
I’m starving. Can I eat?
Kalee and Liz say take a seat.
Shove it down, quick as can be,
I really want to be out and free.
Debbie’s out there waiting for us,
She’s so full of fun it’s a definite plus.
I’m on the mat for a story,
No just one, but three, what glory!
I’ve just found Kate,
I’m in a state.
Kate will give me a pat,
sends me off to get my hat.
She takes me over to the swing,
I’m flying, I’ve forgotten my little ding.
I can hear the trampoline calling,
Slow the swing down, I’m not falling.
Skye’s watching the trampoline,
I think I’m really very keen.
Lots of jumping tricks to do,
I do believe I just flew!
“Gio, where’s my Mum and Dad?”
“Come and draw on my pad”.
Colour in I’ve forgotten,
I’ll make a collage with my cotton.
Finally its home I go,
I’ve got my Mum and Dad in tow.
Thanks for an amazing day,
I’ll be back tomorrow for more play.
